Accused Stalker Questioned: 'Yet Suppose I Am Madeleine?'
A woman accused with pursuing Kate McCann apparently deposited her a recorded message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who court testimony revealed has consistently declared she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial indicted with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the tribunal was told phone records and information obtained from phones recorded Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout that period.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most publicized investigations and continues to be unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another voicemail, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I feel."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail stated: "What if there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What happens next? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I only wish to know," the message continued.
The panel was told that by means of emails, SMS messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a DNA test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, a data specialist with law enforcement who gathered the information, informed the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with family friends of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court learned the co-defendant developed a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a trip to the McCanns' home in the county in December 2024.
Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had contacted via messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be treated respectfully in the period before the visit to the village, the county, in that winter.
The court was told communications between the two defendants, in last November, planning endeavoring to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from utensils at a eating establishment.
"We must assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the visit to their house, Mrs Spragg dispatched a text which stated: "We are sat adjacent to the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark resembling investigators. I wanted to do this with someone else I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."
