Blues Manager Maresca Rejects Man City Links as Pure Rumour
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has labelled recent reports connecting him with a move to Manchester City as "100% speculation".
The 45-year-old, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's right-hand man at the Etihad, addressed the ongoing rumours about his next move.
Maresca, named Chelsea boss in the summer of 2024, has a contract that runs until 2029, with a potential extension option.
"It doesn't bother me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca said. "And at this moment, there is no time for these kind of things."
He went on to explain, "First of all, because I have a contract here for several more years. And my focus, I have stated many times, is just about this club and I'm honoured to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was linked with a role in Italy with Juventus. So I ignore it because I know that is not true."
Chelsea, currently sitting in fourth position in the top flight, are set to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a lunchtime kick-off.
Strain After Recent Comments
Maresca's latest comments follow after he referred to a recent 48-hour period as his most difficult since arriving at Chelsea.
Those original words had fueled widespread talk of a possible disagreement between the manager and the club's key decision-makers.
When pressed if he had since spoken with the Chelsea's sporting directors, Maresca responded, "We are in the same facility, so we talk about various topics. But about the Everton media session, no."
The Italian did confirm he would "absolutely" stay at the club next season and urged the fans to "continue to support the team".
In brighter news, Maresca revealed that injured forwards Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back sooner than expected, possibly in contention for a fixture against Aston Villa later this month.
Perspective: Unresolved Tension
The perceived disconnect between Maresca and the club's hierarchy persists as an unhealed issue that continues to create unease.
While there has been no further escalation of the situation publicly, there has equally been no resolution offered, leaving the matter unaddressed.
The mood during these media briefings has become increasingly strained, raising fears it could undermine what has up to now been a decent beginning to the campaign.
Chelsea's sporting position is strong: they are in the top four in the Premier League, have qualified for the League Cup last four, and can secure a favourable Champions League position with good performances in their remaining games.
The lingering question is whether this off-field situation might eventually affect a team that was just starting to look settled.
