Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday after the team's 10-match winless beginning to the top-flight season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the club ownership.

The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a leading candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves directors as they begin the search of hiring a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock choice given he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham United player is out of work which means Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
