Former footballer Gary Neville reveals he took down a Union Jack being 'displayed in a negative fashion'.

Gary Neville explained that he ordered the removal of a union flag from one of his property development locations because it was being "displayed in a harmful way," as he urged his followers to reconsider the definition to be patriotic.

A Social Media Post

In a social media video shared Friday, the ex-player turned businessman said he believed that "people are being pitted against one another," laying a great deal of the fault for the division on "frustrated, middle-aged white males … who know exactly what they’re doing|who are fully aware of their actions|who understand the consequences of their behavior}."

Contrasting Streets

He spoke about his journey on Littleton Road, and seeing "an estimated fifty to sixty Union Jacks" on that section of the road. He then compared that with his return drive through the adjacent avenue, the other thoroughfare, where the local Jewish residents were "out in the streets, defiant, not hiding or in fear."

Action Taken

The pundit, who has developed a vast property empire in Manchester since ending his playing career in 2011, said he had removed a union flag being shown at one of his construction sites.

"Funnily enough on one of my construction sites last week there was a British flag hoisted and I ordered its prompt removal," he said.

Defining National Pride

"Certain viewers may be thinking and thinking: 'Neville, you don't love your country.' I’ve played for my country 85 times, I have great affection for England, I am devoted to Manchester and I cherish England," he affirmed.

Neville, 50, said that in the period he has worked in the city, he had not observed Union Jacks at the existing level and questioned why this was the case.

"The Union Jack displayed in a divisive way is not right and I consider myself a devoted backer of the nation, of Britain, of our country and will champion it anywhere as one of the greatest places to live," he asserted.

An Appeal for Self-Assessment

"But I think we need to check ourselves," he went on, "check ourselves and start to think about returning to a balanced position because we’re being pulled right and left and this division is entirely unnecessary."

Previous Statements

The sports analyst has frequently voiced his opinions on societal and political matters, for instance urging the public to "abhor" the unfavorable employment situations for migrant workers in Qatar and health service workers in the United Kingdom.

Diversity in Sports

In his social media footage, Neville commented on the variety within the sport, saying that he shared the pitch with individuals from throughout the nation and from around the world. "We were a beautiful team, united as one," he stated.

Post-Brexit Impact

He said he attributed fault to Brexit for its "harmful impact" on the country, and said the "narrative" of discord was becoming "profoundly risky."

"These foolish individuals that are out there spreading hate speech in whatever form and hostility in any manifestation, it is vital we no longer amplify them," he asserted.

"We must stop elevating our voices towards them and the situation requires an instant halt and restore a land of affection, of tranquility, of harmony and become a team again."
