Jim Gavin Leaves Ireland's Presidential Election Right Away
Fianna Fáil candidate Jim Gavin has declared he is pulling out from the Irish presidential election with "immediate effect".
He was poised to be one of three candidates competing for the role of Irish president, beside Independent TD Catherine Connolly and Fine Gael's Heather Humphreys.
However, late Sunday he said in a statement he had "made a mistake inconsistent with his values and his personal standards."
"Considering all these factors, I have decided to exit the presidential race immediately and go back to my family," he declared via a statement.
