The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, has since taken on positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
The club claimed England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the possibility that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with the podcast host: “I said I won't manage another team within the country. Therefore should it be the Reds...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, so I could make the decision in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what lies ahead.”
Questioned regarding what circumstances would need to occur to tempt his return to the touchline, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “No longing for management; No desire to be in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for media briefings four times, three times a week or constant media duties each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears for example.”
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role for the adjustments which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions post heavy investment, though he denied the idea that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, they'll bounce back.”
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a player he signed during his tenure, along with the consequences at the club. The Portugal international died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“Can you substitute such an individual? It’s not about his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A profound tragedy for the entire squad also. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Handling this emotionally is difficult. Overwhelming.”
