This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
