Police have released shocking video illustrating a driver performing risky skidding techniques around a traffic circle during an illegal car meet, placing spectators at serious risk of injury.
Judicial Outcome for Dangerous Driver
A 23-year-old from Southampton was given a jail term of 27 weeks, suspended for 12 months, after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.
Additionally, the judge issued a 12-month driving ban and ordered community service along with a behavioral course.
Details of the Event
As stated by authorities, the video was filmed at an unauthorized car meet in Portsmouth on December 28th, 2024, featuring the driver operating a distinctive colored vehicle.
“This footage demonstrates the shocking moment when a dangerous motorist drifted on a traffic circle at an illegal car meet, as crowds watched despite the risk of severe harm.”
Wider Crackdown on Illegal Vehicle Gatherings
Officials reported that more than 200 offences related to illegal car meets in the region have been addressed in just over a year.
Notable figures from the enforcement effort include:
- Over thirteen thousand pounds in fines issued
- 69 demerit points awarded
- 4 individuals banned from driving
- 76 on-the-spot fines distributed
- 54 legal cases taken to court
Official Statement
An officer commented: “Local people, drivers and our traffic officers have had enough with these crowds of motorists selfishly taking over streets and parking areas and we will not tolerate it.”
He added: “These events are not only a total disturbance, but they also put participants and innocent bystanders at risk of serious injury.”
The statement concluded: “We will continue to take legal action against these individuals and I trust these recent cases serve as a caution: you will face consequences.”
